After school today

This morning A had a late start to school
He is SO snotty
I wanted to KNOW if he was feeling well
So we waited a couple of hours this morning
Before going to school
When I picked him up
We went to the library
Played with the train, dinosaur, looked at books, puzzles
and this thing.
He is getting so big
Sitting at the table able to concentrate on a puzzle.

12~12~12 at 12:12p.m.

Today I'm taking a day off.
I had breakfast with my boy
and took him to school.
I hung out with my mom
and bought Christmas presents.
I'm trying to clear my head
and get some things done.
Hopefully I can find somewhere new
to work after the holidays.
Something with less stress,
no cops, no panic buttons, no referrals.
Just happy.

K&I have been married 6 years and 4 months today!

Tuesday

Life is too short to write referrals and hit the panic button all day.

Getting a mini milkshake with my boy, watching a movie and looking for jobs - even better.

Geez

I had to push the panic button today.

I also had to write referrals.

Why are kids so angry these days?

I mean, it's art for goodness sakes.  There is something really wrong here.

They don't pay me enough to hear students yell at each other and disturb the peace.

I deserve a cookie.

And that's just what I got...Thank you Panera!

Those punk kids made me miss my lunch so A and I treated ourselves after school and it was good.

Best part of my day...eating with my boy.

Here's to a great Friday....lets hope.

The things we miss.

Every weekend K and I wake up to either a crying dog or a happy little boy next door to us.  K will say, "Man I wish there was a Taco Cabana close by or Rudy's to get some breakfast tacos."

We've been in a rental house for almost a year now.  It was built in the 50's.  It has hardwood floors and 2 bedrooms.  Our house in TX was built in the 90's.  It had carpet, an open floor plan, high ceilings, and inside laundry.  We are thankful for this old house, but hope one day we can have that kind of house again we had in TX.

I used to teach 850 hispanic children every week.  They were excited, energetic and happy to be in art once a week.  Now I teach 115 teenagers everyday.  They are quite different from my sweet TX ones.  Sometimes expressionless, sometimes not happy to be there.  Crazy how things change.

It's the little things.

The Fair

I met my mom, dad & Austin at the peanut festival this afternoon after a drama filled day in the high school art room.  Sheesh.  My mom & dad already had a famous corndog and Austin saw some pigs.  We walked around and looked at the rides.  We got to the kiddie rides and Austin rode the carousel with Lecee, Tilt a Bear with me & Lecee, & the elephants that went up in the air with G.  We saw a seal show and then tried to find my car.  It was a fun afternoon!

So...

Austin and I went to a Bama birthday party Saturday.

We've been going to this church and we like it.  You might remember our delimma here.  They keep it simple and we like that.

I have one more school left with the smudges program and the Wiregrass Museum of Art.  It's the school I went to when I was in 3rd grade.

Some days I think teaching high school art is going well and some days I don't.  The teacher left everything in a mess & I'm trying to pick it up and make it better.

Austin woke up at 5:45a.m. this morning.  Boo to time change.

Yikes

Oy

The life of a substitute is not easy.

Especially when their teacher has been out off and on since the beginning of school and classroom management is next to nothing.

Taking it one day at a time, I tell ya.

Oh me

Oh Monday...You are making me crazy!
  • A woke up at 5 this morning wet...woke up again at 7:45 this morning.
  • It's A's first day at daycare this morning...he didn't want to leave his Mama!  Tears.
  • Got a weird phone call about subbing
  • Witnessed a high strung Mama checking her kids in at school today yelling at the ladies behind the counter
  • Got to my classroom to teach art and the classroom teacher thought her day was Wednesday, not today.  Surprise! Let's do art!
  • Had to teach really fast for my second class - because they had somewhere to go at a certain time.
  • It's A's naptime right now & I'm really praying he'll lay still and take one at school.

***A had a good day at DayCare!  He didn't nap, but he layed down for 2 hours. He was on the playground when I came to get him and he didn't want to leave.  Lets hope the mornings get better.  A had a few come aparts after school due to being tired.  We made a quick trip to the Art Museum for gluesticks then watched BubbleGuppies at home.  I made banana nut muffins and A has played.  We are waiting for Dad to get home!***

Tuesday

Although I'm a big fan of smaller classes
I'm also a fan of well-respected schools in our city
As long as everything goes well this afternoon
That's his new school next Monday.

After visiting another daycare
We went to the park
Ate lunch and played with the ball
A huge, old lab joined us, too
Fun times with my Little Buddy

Twas the Night Before Subbing

Thoughts from the night before subbing at a high school art class when you've only taught elementary art:

Playdough? Nah.
Paper plate fish? No
Streamer Jelly Fish? Nope
Playdough? Nay
Side Walk Chalk? Nada

Guess what their project was today:
Drawing cartoon characters - not far from elementary

I observed the teacher that was leaving & I was so happy she showed up.
Big Kids were filing in & no lesson plans in sight.

It was a long day, and will have another go at it on Thursday.

Thanks for praying!
